+ Hike the Heights
In 2020 the corner of 3rd Ave and East 121st Street looked like this:
The building had been mostly occupied by "American Outlet" which looked somehow truncated. In Columbia University's collection of postcards there is an item that shows what the building originally looked like:
The red/orange brick top three stories were lopped off and only the lower two floors remained.

Note that the beautiful copper-clad window area had been filled in with brick, and cheap windows thrown in.
Note the cast iron pillar at the bottom right and the higher quality brick(work) on the pilasters.
And also note the thinner, yellow brick that made up the pilaster (compared to the standard brick next door), and the cinderblock? that formed the infill where the copper windows once were:

Hello Climbers!
It's 20 years in a row for Hike the Heights!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 1st, 11am - 3pm at the Pit in Highbridge Park. This year we are celebrating Building Stronger Communities. If you want to join planning meetings, we meet on Zoom on Fridays at 6pm. Please email for the zoom link.

We are also in the running for $1100 more in matching funds through IOBY via ConEdison's Power Up Neighborhood Match program. Please help us reach our target!
