IS 201

+ Pride is Coming

There is a great news photograph of IS 201 (also formerly the Harlem Choir Academy) for sale on eBay that looks westward towards Madison Avenue from Park/127.

The distinctive architecture of IS 201 is unmistakable, although today there is a fence between the trapezoidal pillars.

Looking at the distant corner of Madison/127, you can see the very distinctive (turreted) architecture of the Madison Avenue buildings:

And, while those beautiful brick and brownstone buildings are lost (it’s an overgrown vacant lot now) the 1940’s tax photo of this site shows what was lost:

A few years ago a few former IS 201 students created a series of YouTube videos in which they reminisced about the neighborhood and the school:

The first two parts with some stories about the block, the parents fight to keep a standard of education, and more are up on their YouTube, and they have more coming.

Attention Harlem Residents! Your Voice Matters! As the city deliberates plans for the luxury condo at 2201 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, it's crucial to advocate for the interests of Harlem families and single young working individuals.

The decision to accept vouchers through the DHS FHEPS program could greatly impact the accessibility of affordable housing in our community. We believe in low-income driven affordable housing that uplifts Harlem families and supports our local workforce. By signing the petition, you contribute to the push for housing solutions that prioritize the needs of our community.

What is FHEPS? FHEPS is a vital rent supplement program for families with children facing eviction, survivors of domestic violence, and those affected by health or safety issues.

Formerly known as FEPS, the program's expansion ensures support for vulnerable households, transitioning administration from the State to the City. Your signature can make a difference! Let's ensure our voices are heard in the decision-making process. Sign the petition today for a brighter, more inclusive future for Harlem.
