Black History Month Year 2025 celebrated at Apollo Theater in Harlem

Manhattan Borough President celebrates and recognizes the explicit profound impact Black communities, leaders, philanthropists, and organizations, have had in shaping Manhattan and the nation.

Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine's Black History Month Event in partnership with Cool Kids Inc., The New York Urban League and Center of Urban Professional (CUP) with special event titled "Black Gives Back" Apollo Stages at the historic Victoria Theater. showcased remarkable work of local Black philanthropists who are making a difference locally in Manhattan including Harlem including focus on education and youth development to social justice and economic empowerment.

The event underscored the vital role that Black philanthropy assures in strengthening communities.

Following up from last year’s year 2024 Gallery Opening & Talkback that celebrated the opening of The Apollo’s Victoria with this visual exploration of Black artists and creativity from the 1950s through the early 2000s including Photographer and gallerist Alex Harsley’s exhibition detailing the visual history of local Black creative spaces, curation by Harsley’s daughter Kendra Krueger, From The Victoria to The Village: A Visual History of Black Creative Spaces in addition to The Apollo’s Laura & Frank Baker Gallery, had an intimate talkback curator by author Halima Taha.

The gallery exhibition was opened on February 1, 2024 and was made accessible for free to the public until April 26, 2024 as a Visual History of Black Creative Spaces is a part of The Apollo’s Winter 2024 season and commissioned as a part of The Apollo’s New Works initiative.

     At the time last year, Apollo New Works is generously supported by the Ford Foundation with funding from The Mellon Foundation and Silicon Valley Community Foundation as well.

This year in addition to the support of Manhattan Borough President Mark levin Congressman Adrian Espaillet @Repespaillet via Instagram shows love and support stating “Join me at the Apollo Stages at The Victoria on February 23rd from 2pm-4pm for our annual Black History Month showcase celebrating Harlem’s legacy and influence around the world” in solidarity of which support was also shared by other important figures including Manhattan District Council Member Yusef Salaam etc.
