Comedian and actress Zainab Johnson is known for her standup comedy, which draws heavily from her experiences as a Black Muslim woman. Her new special, "Hijabs Off," showcases her ability to find humor in even the most difficult situations. She hopes that her stories will help people to see the common ground that we all share.
NPR has a great interview of Johnson who grew up in a large family in Harlem, New York City. She studied math and education in college, but she always had a passion for comedy. She began her career doing open mics and quickly gained recognition for her unique and relatable style.
In 2014, Johnson was invited to compete on the NBC-TV series "Last Comic Standing." She made it to the finals and gained even more exposure for her comedy. She has since appeared on several other television shows, including "Ramy," "A Black Lady Sketch Show," and the upcoming third season of "Upload."
Johnson is a regular on the comedy club circuit and is known for her ability to connect with audiences of all backgrounds. She hopes that her comedy will help to bridge the gap between different cultures and groups of people.
