Harlem and East Harlem's Political Races Heat Up

+ New Candidates Running to Replace Incumbents

In Central Harlem, Joshua Clennon has declared his candidacy for NY State Assembly - currently held by Inez Dickens, who has not yet stated whether or not she plans to run.

In a recent letter to supporters, Joshua writes:

Joshua Clennon: Your Candidate for NY Assembly

Hi, as the holiday season approaches, bringing us together with our loved ones, it's essential to reflect on the future we're creating for Harlem. We stand at a critical crossroads, where the charm and soul of our community are overshadowed by the looming shadows of gentrification, skyrocketing rent, and diminishing quality of life. Harlem, once the heartbeat of cultural richness and community solidarity, now grapples with an historic affordable housing crisis and policy designs that have turned our beloved neighborhood into the epicenter of Manhattan's substance abuse challenges.

The system isn't failing us; it's working exactly as it was designed. But this isn’t our inevitable fate. It’s a wake up call. It's a call for intentional, dedicated, courageous leadership – leadership that doesn't just walk the halls of power but walks the streets of Harlem, understands its pulse, and fights tirelessly for its heart and soul. This is why I am stepping up to represent us in the NY Assembly. Because Harlem deserves leaders who don’t just speak but act, who don’t just promise but deliver.

My commitment to Harlem is born out of a deep-seated love and dedication to my community:

Meanwhile, In East Harlem…

In East Harlem, Xavier Santiago and Tamika Mapp have both thrown their hats into the ring to unseat Eddie Gibbs - the East Harem NYS Assembly Member.

After years of prodding from the community and consulting with the family, I am delighted to share that I will be running for NYS Assembly! Paperwork has officially been submitted to the Board of Elections. More news to come…”
