Harlem prepares for Brigadier General Charles Young Playground renovation completion

According to the National Museum of the United States Army General Charles Young is recognized for having made a significant impact and as an outstanding member of the military; during his lifetime been honored for his achievement, the park named General Charles Young Playground adopted the name after General Charles Young serves is a notable landmark within the Harlem community, a prestigious constantly reminder of his service as a military man of West Point Academy having served as a Buffalo Soldier, having served as a professor of military sciences and tactics (PMST) at Historically Black College and University Wilberforce College (now Wilberforce University), being deployed in the Philippines, having served as the superintendent of Sequoia National Park in California being the first African American to hold the position, selected as the military attaché to Haiti and the Dominican Republic along with other outstanding recognitions.

The playground including field for football and soccer as well as softball/baseball, an array of handball courts, basketball diamonds, a mini soccer pitch and playground renovations with recent investment of $5.6M are coming to completion after its original opening in September 1944.

Harlem looks forward to further extending the legacy of such unprecedented valor that the life works of General Charles Young holds with such great respect and high esteem.
