Harlem's Vice President
a Harlem resident was tapped to be a Vice Presidential candidate.
In 1932, the communist party ran with a racially mixed ticket that included James W. Ford:
Ford moved to Harlem from the south and like many who made the trek, was shocked to see how many aspects of Jim Crow America were evidenced here in New York City during the 20s and 30s. He joined the communist party and was chosen by William Foster to run for national office.
While only winning just over 100,000 votes, their ticket was a major advance over earlier showings by the communist party.
