The annual list of worst landlords (excluding NYCHA) has been released and as you might expect, several Harlem addresses are included.

The worst building in our community is at 162 West 132nd Street, with over 500 outstanding violations:

“The Harlem of the South”

Many American cities with historic Black neighborhoods label these neighborhoods as the “Harlem of the…”. In the South, at least seven cities claim this title, but one local historian in Jacksonville, FL, says Jackosnville’s LaVilla neighborhood is the true “Harlem of the South” and much more.
