La Beig NEW LIFE (nyc)

Columbia University at The Forum at Columbia University located at 601 W 125th St. in Harlem hosted a panel of distinguished cast members and scholars alike during a Film Screening of the Historic film Paris is Burning of which during the panel emphasis was placed on the historic relevance and context of the film at the time integrating conversationalism revolving around issues regarding race and civil injustices of the lived experiences those alive during the era and involved in the LGBQT culture at the time were faced with some of whom triumphed and others that perished.

The caption one the flyer for the event states “Join us for a screening of Paris is Burning, the groundbreaking documentary that celebrates the resilience, artistry and culture of New York’s 1980’s drag and ballroom scene”, undoubtedly one of the primary reasons if not the sole reason for the study/documentary.

Although the many obstacles of the times existed the resiliency of the community beyond the years the film had been created has continually transitioned and accelerated upwardly creating many great opportunities within the culture that has lead to great successes in major films and television such as the more recent success stories with proven successes on major television networks such as Pose and other phenomenal productions.

Much gratitude obliged to the panel speakers and the SGL-LGBTQ Task Force of Manhattan Community Board 9 for coordinating/organizing the event solidarity with Columbia University home to large numbers of many gifted/talented scholars at the Manhattan campuses located eloquently in Harlem.
