In 1911, a Black baseball team - The Lincoln Giants - played ball on Olympic Field. This site (now covered by the Riverton housing development) was located at 135th and 5th Avenue.

Roller skiing is a very physically challenging sport, but one that is accessible in snowless, urban environments like Harlem. And, while there are no Historically Black Colleges and Universities with NCAA skiing programs, a small group of roller skiing and spikeboarding enthusiasts are aiming to help change this and also help young people in our community compete for ski-related athletic scholarships.

Spikeboarding is part of this goal and key to making skiing a truly year-round sport. NCAA scholarships are out there. All that is required is dedication, education and hills that are paved.
