In the 1930's the Works Project Administration set hundreds of workers on a makeover project for (then named) Mount Morris Park. This photo shows just how different the park looked 90 years ago:

you can see the Hotel Theresa, the pointy spire of Ephesus Church on Lenox Avenue, and the dome (on the left) of Mount Morris Ascension Church.
