Power of Community: Silent Voices United Inc. Leads Charge Against Luxury Condo Conversion

HARLEM, NY – June 7, 2024 – Silent Voices United Inc. is excited to announce that we have been granted an in-person Pre-Motion Conference with Judge Gary Stein regarding the injunction we submitted on Friday, March 1, 2024, to halt the city’s plan to convert the luxury condo at 2201 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard into a shelter, temporary housing, and a DHS FHEPS voucher program. This crucial development follows the community's unified call to action, which Mayor Eric Adams responded to, demonstrating the power of collective voices.

Mayor Adams heeded our community’s plea to prevent the luxury condo from becoming a sanctuary for asylum seekers or other organizational uses without proper community consultation. This pivotal moment underscores the impact of community solidarity and the power of the people when they come together to fight for their neighborhood.

We invite all Central Harlem residents to join us in standing in solidarity as we let our voices be heard. The Pre-Motion Conference will occur on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 9A at 500 Pearl Street, New York, New York 10007. Please arrive 30 minutes early to allow time for security checks, as electronics will need to be held.

Silent Voices United Inc., Breaking The Chains Of Your Mind, and Tulinde, LLC are committed to ensuring that the community's needs and perspectives are prioritized in any decisions impacting our neighborhood. This conference is a critical step in our ongoing efforts to secure a seat at the decision-making table for community residents.

For more information, please get in touch with Tiffany Fulton, Founder | Director of Silent Voices United Inc. , at 646-645-9110.
