Pride Month in Harlem

+ Early Voting in the Democratic Mayoral Primary

June Is Pride Month

June is pride month and Harlem has a long and interesting LGBT history. See the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project here to learn about significant sites in Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance.

Early Voting Has Begun for the NYC Mayoral Democratic Primary!

Today is the third day of early voting to choose the Democratic candidate for the New York City mayoral election that will be held on November 24, 2025.

Registered Democrats are 65 percent of the more than 5 million registered voters in NYC according to the NY State Board of Elections data(see here). However, voters in the city can be unpredictable and the incumbent mayor is running as an independent, thus, he will not on the ballot for this primary.

The New York City Board of Elections has a great wait-time map that will show you how long you can expect to wait at each poll station. It seems to be updated approximately every ten minutes. This morning each poll site in Harlem was green which means the wait time is under 20 minutes. (One early voter reported that at Wadleigh High School, there was no wait although they had difficulty finding the entrance).

It is a ranked-choice election: See here for a great explanation from The New York Times about how that works.
