Remembering Charles Rangel on Memorial Day
This Memorial Day we remember “The Lion of Lenox Avenue,” Charlie Rangel, who died today at age 94. He was born in Harlem, earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star in the U.S. Army, and served Harlem as an elected representative for a half-century; first in the New York State Assembly from 1967 to 1971 and then in the U.S. Congress from 1971 - 2017, where he was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Farewell to a man who spent the majority of his life representing Harlem.

George Bruce Library 115th Anniversary!
First opened in 1888 on West 42nd Street, the George Bruce Library moved up to West 125 Street in Harlem on June 2, 1915. It has dutifully served the Harlem community for 110 years, and this achievement will be celebrated next Monday, June 2nd (exactly 110 years after its move to Harlem).
The celebration will be at the library from 3pm-5pm, at 518 West 125th Street between Amsterdam and Broadway, and will have a 1915 theme, featuring ragtime music, period-based jigsaw puzzles, and photos of the branch and the surrounding community from a century ago.
Participants of all ages are welcome to come, and the historic library hopes to see you there! (ER)
