Where Do the Members of the NYPD Live?

Our communities will be safer if our NYPD Officers live in our neighborhoods.

NYPD Officers

  • aren't allowed to live in the neighborhoods they serve.

  • don't have incentives to live in NYC.

  • are encouraged to work in new precincts every couple years.

NYPD Officers should be encouraged to

  • live in the neighborhoods they serve.

  • live in NYC

  • continue working in their preferred precincts

WE PROPOSE TO

  • allow NYPD Officers to live in the Precincts and Neighborhoods they serve.

  • give a 2% salary increase to any police officer selecting to live in NYC.

  • encourage NYPD Officers to continue working in Precincts where they do best.

We want our police officers to love our communities as much as we do.  We want them to live here.  The more local our police officers are, the safer our communities will be.  The more police officers who continue working in the same precinct, the more committed they will be to the communities and neighborhoods where they serve.  Currently, a neighborhood will receive an excellent Police Chief (Commanding Officer), but then the same person often moves to another Precinct within two years, before making lifelong impacts in the department and the community.  This petition was initiated by Todd Stevens, a former NYPD Auxiliary Police Officer and 18 year resident and real estate broker in Harlem (living in Manhattan from 1996).  Enclosed in this below link is helpful information created to study and review where our NYPD Officers live.  The study even found that many NYPD Officers lie about where they live.  Too many live too far away.  Please sign this petition to create a safer NYC where our NYPD's police officer are committed to our neighborhoods and city as much as every New Yorker.
