Spring is Coming

+ Home Ownership

Spring is coming and Ebay has a cyanotype view of Harlem and Washington Heights from the Bronx side of Highbridge (the aquaduct for Croton water to NYC).

The moody, foggy background, and the traces of snow in the (Bronx) foreground, work well with the leafless trees and the mood cast by the blue (cyan) color.

Home Ownership Expo

The Greater Harlem Real Estate Board (GHREB) wants to get you into a home.

This is now the 10th straight quarter in a row that homeownership rates amongst black and brown people has declined. Harlem’s residents (renters) are often under the assumption that there are no homeownership options within the 5 boroughs and especially not in Harlem.

On April 13th, GHREB and friends (HCCI, FDIC, and HUD) will debunk this myth by presenting to the community at large affordable homeownership options, strategies of how to obtain down payment assistance, and how to maintain and build generational wealth. Join the Greater Harlem Real Estate Board for an exciting in-person event at The Victoria Theatre in the Renaissance Hotel 233 West 125th Street, New York, NY, 10027 USA.

This free event is unlike any other Home Buyers Expo, as qualified buyers will receive pre-approval letters on the spot. In addition, we will have three sets of panelists to discuss the topics of Down Payment Assistance/Grants, Mortgage Insurance, and What to Do About Big Mama’s/Abuela’s House/Reinvesting Retirement Funds (Inheritance/Tax Strategies).

Please note, that you will need to go to GHREB.net to get the list of documents to bring and the necessary credit requirements. If your credit is not up to par, that’s ok; GHREB will have a credit repair company with tools and strategies to help you purchase in the future.

The next day, Sunday, April 14th, is “It’s Shopping Time,” a 5 Borough Brokers Open House Tour, aka TOUR de 5 Boroughs. Buyers will independently tour the open houses of their choice in their desired borough.

You do not have to be a member of a union or work for NYC. This event is for anyone that wants to purchase in Harlem or within the 5 boroughs of NYC.

While this event is free, we ask each person to give a suggested but not mandatory donation of $20 or more to benefit the Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) so that kids who could not otherwise afford their summer programs can attend. HSA put the needs of the Harlem community first as they were willing to postpone their 60th Anniversary Founders Day Event so that we could have a venue to present this Home Buyers Expo to the community.

Homeownership not only builds the community, it builds generational wealth.
