The Grandscale Mural Project is back for 2023!
Bring Your Painterly Self. All Welcome!
The Grandscale Mural Project is back for 2023! along with a new Open Streets Community Mural.
Join us to pick up a paintbrush to transform construction fences across East Harlem with community murals that are colorful and vibrant.
Pick the date you’d like to join us: No special talents are required, and we’ll provide all supplies (and snacks).
* OPEN STREETS COMMUNITY MURAL:
Saturday, October 21, from 1-3 p.m., 101st & Lex
The Open Streets mural will celebrate the legacy of children and street games in El Barrio, as well as the history of the Children’s Aid Society on the block. Teaching artist: SuperGoode
* GRANDSCALE COMMUNITY MURAL:
Saturday, October 28, from 1-3 p.m., 125th & Park
The Grandscale community mural will brighten up construction fences along East 125th Street with a pop art pattern inspired by African kente fabrics. Teaching artist: Gera Lozano

In honor of the 40th anniversary of New York City's Percent for Art program, take this self-guided tour of some of the permanent, public artworks commissioned in Manhattan, specifically in Harlem.

The tour includes:
Artist Gabriel Koren and Algernon Miller's "Frederick Douglass Memorial," located at Central Park North and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, Manhattan
Artist Alison Saar's "Swing Low," located at St. Nicholas Avenue, West 122nd Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard
Artist Jorge Luis Rodriguez's "Growth," located in the East Harlem Art Park
Artist Houston Conwil's "Rivers," located in the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (closed Sundays).
