Party on the Park

+ Growing up in a Harlem Library

Come out today! It’s the fifth annual Party On Park from 12-4 p.m.! Here are the photos from last year.

As you know, for the past few years, the organizers have had to change the event in shape and size due to the MTA's ongoing Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement Project. This year, the agencies have given the go-ahead for Park Avenue from 115th to 111th streets.

Stop by the HNBA table (just look for our name/banner) and help make Party On Park a beautiful day for the community!

(Make sure to mention that you read the HNBA.nyc newsletter!)

Living in a Library

Ronald Clark grew up in the Washington Heights Library on 150th, just west of the Morris-Jumel Mansion. His father, Raymond, was a custodian at the library and with his family, including 15-year old Ronald, he moved into an apartment atop the stacks in 1949. Ronald grew up reading the books and roaming the stacks and he, in turn, raised his daughter in that apartment until she was five. Watch the lovely animation produced from his recounting of living in the library to StoryCorps.
