Browsing this site is addictive. You can look, of course, at the home you are in now, but also see what other buildings looked like in the 1940’s and 1980’s. One of the things that often strikes me looking at the 1940’s photos is how treeless the streets were. The abandonment of the 1980’s is, of course, well known but the visceral change over only 40 years is really shocking

Clicking on any of the black dots, gives you a glimpse into Harlem (and New York’s past), with the compare/contrast, being both fascinating and heartbreaking.

The example of 5th Avenue houses (above) looks much more gritty, with the fire escape now on in the 1980’s:
